CREW

Crew has always been known as the highest level of training within our Signature Progressive structure — but as we grow, so does our vision. This season, we’re reimagining Crew as a completely separate, creator-based experience designed for dancers who want to dive deeper.

This is no longer an advanced version of our Signature Progressives. It’s a creative training pod for those ready to lead, perform, and push past what they thought was possible.

Led by Peter D’Souza, Haru Nakajima, Shaqueel Lawrence, & Chris Wong.

WHAT’S NEW ABOUT CREW?

  • COMMITMENT

Crew is a curated group of dancers ready for a higher level of challenge and collaboration. Crew dancers will be required to attend two weekly sessions: Your choice of Level 4 Signature Progressive + 1.5hr Crew Sessions (Sundays).

This way, dancers get the opportunity to work with a larger group (Level 4) to build on elements of technique, execution, & performance and then break into smaller groups to get a deeper dive into personal creative development and push forward at a higher level.

  • MENTORSHIP

Limited to 12 dancers— Small, focused, and immersive, designed for deeper feedback and team connection. Led by four program co-leads (Peter, Haru, Shaq, & Chris W), expect varied styles, rotating instructors, and multi-faceted growth.

Each co-lead instructor brings a different set of expertise, professional experience, and style of movement to the table. Each dancer will select from our four cycle options to determine which area they would like to focus on.

  • CREATIVE RISK

The season will be broken up into cycles, which include skill-building, creative exploration, and performance or project deliverables. Look forward to new chances to create, perform, lead, and represent CD outside of the studio.

Within the 16 week period, there’ll be:
    - 2 performance pieces
    - 1 video project
    - 1 collaborative choreo challenge

FAQs

WHY are we evolving?

In the past, Crew drew dancers for a variety of reasons and we have grown through many incredible iterations of this group over the years. While commitment, goals, and training styles have shifted with each season, we saw an exciting opportunity to refocus the program and bring its own identity to the experience, separate from the Signature Progressive.

That’s why we’ve reimagined Crew.

The new Crew is built with intention, clarity, and high-level growth at its core. We’re bringing back the best of what made Crew special — the intensity, variety of training, and challenge — and pairing it with a refreshed structure designed to empower our most committed dancers to lead, perform, and evolve.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LEVEL 4 AND CREW?

Great question- All of our Signature Progressives (Level 1-4) will follow the same program format of technique and performance training, implementing Phases 1, 2, & 3. Meanwhile, Crew will be operating on a completely different format, focusing on mentorship, creative exploration, and collaboration in cycles with co-leads. Each class could look quite different depending on the cycle and focus project, which could include video projects, collaborative choreo challenge, and/or performances.

AM I THE RIGHT CANDIDATE FOR CREW?

If you’re enrolled in a Level 4 progressive and looking for more challenge, creativity, & mentorship — Crew might be the right fit for you.

You don’t need to be the strongest dancer in the room— you just need to be ready to work hard, train intentionally, and contribute to a strong team dynamic. If that sounds like you, we’d love to see your application.

I love the concept but can only commit to once a week. Can i still apply?

We require all Crew candidates to be enrolled in one of the Level 4 Signature Progressives to be considered. Crew is an add-on, not a replacement. We have found that consistency in movement practice and commitment to the craft are essential to achieving the goals of Crew.

If once a week fits better into your schedule this season, we recommend selecting a Signature Progressive that best suits you!

WHEN IS THE AUDITION?

The audition for Crew takes place on Sunday, August 17th at 1:30-3:00PM at the CD Clubhouse (2333 Ontario St. Vancouver, BC). Note: A new date may be considered if majority of applicants cannot attend the scheduled slot.
